We need to take a deep breath

and make these decisions in a thoughtful way and not in the heat of the moment.
I think that 90 percent of Americans are able to understand the difference between honoring Confederate War Heroes and honoring the Washingtons and Jefferson's. Every situation is unique and needs to be treated as such.
W &L is unique in that it can defend honoring Lee as not primarily a Confederate. Of course it takes nuance and context that aren't in great supply in 2020 American society.
I think we can get all these situations right if we just do it with cooler heads.
With that said a good deal of the problem today is that the things that were in retrospect very offensive to so many people for so long weren't dealt with a long time ago.
